Alina Rohach, Project Manager of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, joined Canal 26 to discuss everyday life in Ukraine under Russia’s full-scale war, the country’s democratic resilience, and Ukraine’s long-term security needs.
In the interview, Rohach explained that Ukrainians continue to live, work, study, and maintain the functioning of the state despite daily Russian attacks. She emphasized that while war has become part of everyday reality, it has not been normalized. Ukraine’s economy, public services, businesses, and communities continue to operate, showing the country’s ability to adapt under constant pressure.
Rohach also addressed the state of Ukrainian society, noting that war fatigue is natural after years of full-scale invasion, but it does not mean readiness to accept Russian aggression. Ukrainians continue to debate politics, criticize the government, and take part in public discussions, proving that democratic life remains active even under martial law.
The conversation also focused on Ukraine’s security needs. Rohach stressed that NATO membership is, for Ukraine, a matter of long-term protection, not only a political goal. The future security system must prevent Russia from rebuilding its forces and launching another invasion in the coming years.
She underlined that continued European support remains critical – militarily, financially, politically, and technologically. Ukraine is defending not only its own sovereignty, but also the principle that borders in Europe cannot be changed by force. The outcome of the war will shape the European security architecture for decades.
Finally, Rohach discussed the role of drones and Ukraine’s asymmetric creativity on the battlefield. She noted that unmanned systems help Ukraine compensate for Russia’s quantitative advantages and demonstrate how rapidly technology is transforming modern warfare.
