On April 1, the Transatlantic Dialogue Center (TDC), represented by Oleksandr Slyvchuk, Coordinator of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program, and Alina Rohach, Project manager of the same Program, together with the Human Rights Center ZMINA, represented by International Advocacy Manager Tetiana Zhukova, held a meeting with students of Universidad del CEMA (UCEMA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The participants discussed critical issues regarding the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war and its global implications. They addressed why democratic elections currently cannot be held in Ukraine due to the security challenges posed by Russian aggression, emphasizing that Ukraine continues to demonstrate its commitment as a democratic nation despite these adversities.
Furthermore, attention was focused on Russia’s unlawful detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war and the severe persecution and arbitrary detention of civilians in the temporarily occupied territories. Participants underscored the urgent need for international awareness and decisive action to stop these grave human rights abuses.
The meeting also examined Russia’s disinformation strategies and how the Russian state actively manipulates public perception worldwide. Understanding and counteracting these manipulative tactics is crucial to protecting democratic institutions globally. Finally, participants agreed that sustainable peace and a law-based international order depend fundamentally on holding perpetrators accountable, providing adequate compensation to victims, and establishing firm guarantees of non-repetition.
The event enabled a meaningful dialogue on these pivotal topics, reinforcing the necessity for ongoing international cooperation in supporting Ukraine and upholding democracy and human rights worldwide.
