Stepan Rusyn, Coordinator of the German-Ukrainian Partnership Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, joined TVP World (Poland’s English-language 24/7 news channel) to discuss Russia’s attacks in the Black Sea region and the growing concerns that Moscow’s military actions could further escalate the war beyond Ukraine’s borders.
In the interview, Rusyn addressed how Russia continues to use attacks on Ukrainian ports, maritime infrastructure, and coastal areas as part of a broader strategy aimed at increasing pressure on Ukraine and undermining regional security. He emphasized that the Black Sea remains one of the key areas where Russia seeks to project military power, disrupt economic stability, and test the limits of international response.
Rusyn noted that Ukraine’s response must combine military resilience with continued diplomatic engagement with its partners. Strengthening air defense, protecting critical infrastructure, and maintaining maritime security are essential for Ukraine’s economic stability. At the same time, they remain central to the security of the wider Black Sea region.
He also underlined that the risks of wider escalation should not be underestimated. Russia’s actions in the Black Sea also affect European security, global food supply chains, and the credibility of international efforts to deter further aggression.
