On September 28, the Transatlantic Dialogue Center (TDC) took part in a closed-door discussion at the Real Instituto Elcano in Madrid dedicated to “Ukraine at a Crossroads: The War, Military Support and the Future of European Security.”
The discussion featured Maksym Skrypchenko, President of TDC and Nonresident Scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, y Eric Ciaramella, Senior Fellow at Carnegie and former official at the U.S. National Security Council and CIA. The meeting was chaired by Charles Powell, Director of the Elcano Royal Institute. Oleksandr Slyvchuk, coordinador del Programa de Cooperación con España y América Latina en el TDC, also took part in the discussion.
The conversation focused on the current state of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Ukraine’s military needs and international support, the challenges facing Ukraine and its partners, and possible scenarios for bringing the war to an end. Participants also discussed what these scenarios could mean for the future of European security.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange perspectives with the Spanish expert community and deepen dialogue between Ukraine and Spain on security, defense, and the future of Europe.
TDC is grateful to the Real Instituto Elcano, Charles Powell, Carlota García Encina, and the entire Elcano team for hosting the discussion, and to all participants for their valuable contributions.
