Stepan Rusyn, Coordinator of the German-Ukrainian Partnership Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, joined TVP World to discuss Ukraine’s European future amid Russia’s continued attacks and the lack of real momentum in peace negotiations. The interview was published under the title “Ukraine’s future depends on the EU?” by TALKING WITH TVP WORLD.
Rusyn addressed the broader political context in which discussions about Ukraine’s future are taking place. Following another deadly Russian strike on Ukraine, he opined that the prospects for meaningful peace negotiations remained limited, as Moscow keeps relying on military pressure and escalation instead of real readiness for a sustainable settlement.
He emphasised that Ukraine’s path toward the European Union should be understood not only as a matter of political aspiration, but also as a strategic framework for the country’s long-term security, institutional resilience, and post-war recovery. In this context, EU integration remains one of the most important anchors for Ukraine’s future development and its place within the European security order.
Rusyn also underlined that Ukraine’s European perspective is closely connected to the credibility of Western support. As the war continues, the EU’s role becomes increasingly influential in sustaining Ukraine politically, economically, and strategically, while also shaping a realistic long-term vision for Ukraine’s integration into Europe.
