TSN.ua referenced a recent Transatlantic Dialogue Center report, “Navigating the US–EU–Ukraine Triangle: Revitalizing Transatlantic Security Cooperation”, authored by Marianna Fakhurdinova (Coordinator) and Yehor Tkachuk (Analyst) of the TDC EU–Ukraine Partnership Program, in its overview of three possible scenarios for the future trajectory of Russia’s war against Ukraine: continued hostilities, a temporary ceasefire, or a potential freeze of the conflict.

In the section focused on a possible short-term ceasefire, TSN.ua draws on TDC’s assessment that the European Union and the United States currently differ in their approaches to ending the war. As the report notes, the Trump administration prioritizes a rapid ceasefire, avoids directly attributing responsibility for the war to Russia, and applies greater pressure on Kyiv than on Moscow. The report also argues that Washington shows limited interest in achieving a just peace or ensuring accountability, with some proposed approaches implying a normalization of relations without consequences for Russian aggression.

At the same time, TDC highlights that, for key EU actors, Ukraine’s territorial integrity is “non-negotiable,” while European positions emphasize the principle of “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine,” alongside support for legal accountability for senior Russian officials. The report notes, however, that European states remain largely excluded from the peace negotiation process and therefore have limited influence over its direction, while also expressing concerns about unilateral U.S. diplomatic engagement with Russian officials.

In this broader context, TSN.ua uses TDC’s analysis to frame ceasefire discussions as part of a wider transatlantic debate over the direction and terms of a potential settlement.
