On 21 May 2026, des Transatlantic Dialogue Center (TDC) joined an academic session held as part of the 10th anniversary activities of the Master’s program in International Relations and Human Rights (MRIDH) at the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP) (Faculty of Political and Social Sciences). The event took place in a hybrid format, bringing BUAP students together in person, while the speakers participated remotely.

TDC was represented by Alina Rohach, Projektleiterin des Spanien- und Lateinamerika-Partnerschaftsprogramms, and Bohdana Batsko, Project assistant of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program. The session, titled “International conflicts and their resolution: reflections on Ukraine”, focused on the evolving nature of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the key conditions that shape credible pathways toward conflict resolution.

During the discussion, the speakers addressed:

  • the current situation in Ukraine, including developments on the ground and the factors shaping resilience and decision-making;
  • why the war should be understood not only as a conventional military conflict, but also as a hybrid war, combining security pressure, economic coercion, and information operations;
  • the dominant international narratives around the war and how Russian messaging distorts or omits critical facts;
  • the humanitarian dimension, including civilian harm and long-term societal impact, with particular attention to children;
  • Russia’s abduction and deportation of Ukrainian children and why it remains central legally and politically;
  • life under occupation and the risks of “freezing” or normalising occupation without protection mechanisms and accountability;
  • what a durable settlement requires, including security guarantees, accountability, the return of deported persons and children, and protection of civilians under occupation.

We sincerely thank Professor Jorge Contreras Peralta, Dr. Marisol Pérez Díaz (Coordinator, MRIDH), and the BUAP MRIDH community for the invitation and for an engaged discussion.
