On 3 June 2026, at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University, Alina Rohach, Project manager of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, delivered a practice-oriented workshop for undergraduate students of “Public Communications” and “Regional Studies”.
Titled “Ukraine and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean: cooperation in public diplomacy”, the session drew on hands-on experience of working with the region and focused on how Ukraine is perceived across Latin America — and why effective engagement depends on understanding each country’s cultural, historical, and social context.
In an interactive format, students developed ideas to strengthen Ukraine–Latin America connections through shared values and cultural touchpoints. Proposed initiatives ranged from joint film festivals, sports events, and gastronomic projects to cultural exchanges and collaborative design concepts featuring traditional elements from both cultures. Two concepts that sparked particular interest — “Your mountains, our mountains” and “Borshch with seafood” — captured the broader goal of building bridges through creative, locally resonant narratives.
Alina Rohach also reviewed the proposals and outlined what makes public diplomacy tools work in the region — including which factors can reinforce dialogue and which can unintentionally create barriers or misperceptions among local audiences.
The workshop was held as part of practical coursework on Latin America and the Caribbean and took place at the invitation of Associate Professor Tetiana Iliuk and Lecturer Viktoriia Kovalchuk within the activities of the Competence Center “Information and Analytical Center”.
TDC welcomes continued cooperation and values opportunities to support education-to-practice exchange on Ukraine’s engagement with Latin America.
