In an interview with A24 Internacional on October 4, Bohdana Batsko, political analyst and project assistant of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center (TDC), provided an on-the-ground perspective from Kyiv on the current phase of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the shifting dynamics in U.S. policy.

Batsko described a tense situation marked by Russia’s continued drone and missile strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and logistics hubs. These attacks, she noted, are designed to disrupt daily life, instill fear, and pressure the Ukrainian government into concessions — illustrating Moscow’s calculated approach to hybrid warfare and coercion.
Commenting on the apparent change in tone from President Donald Trump’s administration, Batsko viewed the development as a positive signal reflecting sustained diplomatic efforts. However, she stressed that such gestures should not be interpreted as a long-term strategy. For Ukraine and Europe, this underscores the importance of building autonomous defense capabilities and a resilient security architecture rather than relying solely on U.S. political shifts.
Addressing the potential for peace talks, Batsko emphasized that Ukraine’s key objectives remain consistent: a sustainable ceasefire that cannot be exploited as a tactical pause, stricter sanctions on Russia, and the use of frozen Russian assets for reconstruction. She underlined the centrality of justice and accountability, including the prosecution of war crimes and the return of deported Ukrainian civilians and children.

Batsko’s comments on A24 Internacional provided a concise overview of Ukraine’s current strategic outlook — balancing military resilience with diplomatic engagement amid evolving international dynamics. Her analysis reflected Kyiv’s emphasis on maintaining pressure against Russian aggression while seeking a framework for a sustainable and just peace. As transatlantic partners reconsider their long-term approaches, Ukraine continues to advocate for solutions grounded in accountability, stability, and credible security guarantees.
