Chile’s National Congress Hosts Ukrainian Civil Society Representatives for Strategic Exchange

On April 8, representatives of the Transatlantic Dialogue Center (TDC) and the Human Rights Center ZMINA visited Chile’s National Congress for a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Commission. The discussion offered a vital platform to brief Chilean legislators on the unfolding situation in Ukraine and to exchange perspectives on safeguarding democratic principles and fundamental rights in times of war.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation presented an overview of the ongoing Russian war of aggression and its impact on Ukraine’s society, institutions, and future. They discussed the state of the negotiation process, emphasizing that any sustainable peace must be based on justice, sovereignty, and the rule of international law. Particular attention was given to Russia’s systematic war crimes and grave human rights violations, including the documented cases of deportations of Ukrainian children from occupied territories to Russia. The conversation also underlined the resilience of Ukrainian civil society and its commitment to democratic values.

The meeting at the National Congress reaffirmed the importance of international solidarity and further strengthened ties between Ukraine and Chile at a time when global unity is vital.
