Степан Русин, Coordinator of the German-Ukrainian Partnership Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, appeared on World Talks by TVP World to discuss Ukraine’s growing air defense needs. Russia continues to intensify missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities, critical infrastructure, and civilian areas.
In the interview, Rusyn addressed the risks created by potential shortages of Patriot missiles, which remain among the most important tools for intercepting Russian ballistic missiles and protecting densely populated areas. He stressed that Ukraine’s ability to defend its skies directly affects the safety of civilians, the resilience of critical infrastructure, and the country’s capacity to withstand continued Russian pressure.
Rusyn also noted that delays in the delivery of air defense systems and ammunition have immediate consequences on the ground. As Russia adapts its tactics and continues to combine missile and drone attacks, Ukraine requires predictable and timely support from its partners to close existing gaps in air defense coverage.
Stepan underlined that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense is a strategic necessity for both Ukraine and Europe. Protecting Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks helps preserve the country’s economic and social stability and reinforces the broader security of Europe’s eastern flank.
