On 15 December 2025, the Czech–Ukraine Discussion Forum 2025: Overcoming Challenges took place at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv, bringing together Ukrainian and Czech experts to discuss key security challenges facing Ukraine and Europe.

As part of the Forum, Marianna Fakhurdinova, Coordinator of the EU–Ukraine Partnership Programme at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, moderated the panel “Security Needs, NATO and Czech Support.”

The discussion focused on Ukraine’s security needs, NATO cooperation, and the role of the Czech Republic in supporting Ukraine amid an increasingly complex security environment. Participants addressed the impact of shifting transatlantic dynamics, including the recalibration of the United States’ security posture, as well as the growing threats posed by Russia and China to European security.

Particular attention was paid to Czechia’s active role in six UDCG capability coalitions and to questions surrounding the sustainability of military support for Ukraine in the context of potential domestic political changes in the Czech Republic, including possible engagement in initiatives such as PURL.

The panel also examined practical dimensions of bilateral defence cooperation. Discussions covered joint ammunition-production efforts by Czechoslovak Group and Ukrainska Bronetechnica, Ukraine’s most urgent capability gaps, and opportunities to deepen industrial cooperation with Czech partners, including through mechanisms such as SAFE.

In her role as moderator, Маріанна Фахурдінова steered the discussion toward policy-relevant conclusions, emphasising the importance of aligning Ukrainian and Czech security priorities, strengthening defence cooperation, and translating strategic dialogue into practical outcomes.

We would like to thank our colleagues at Ukrainian Prism for organising the Forum and for the invitation.

Participation in the Forum reflects TDC’s role in facilitating expert-level dialogue and moderating policy-focused discussions between Ukrainian and European partners on security and defence cooperation.
