On 10 March 2026 in Mexico City, representatives of the Transatlantic Dialogue Center (TDC) met with Mexico City Congress member Laura Alejandra Álvarez Soto, Chair of the Commission on Children’s Development, to discuss humanitarian priorities linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine — with a particular focus on children.

The meeting brought together Alina Rohach (Project Manager of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program, TDC), Bohdana Batsko (Project Assistant of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program, TDC), Tamara Ibarra (Consultant, Cultural Cooperation and Emergencies Coordinator, PRÁCTICA International Human Rights), and Laura Alejandra Álvarez Soto.

The conversation covered Ukrainian civil society’s perspective on peace prospects and the current situation in Kyiv and across Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to the war’s impact on civilians, including the documented abduction of over 20,000 Ukrainian children, and to the role of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children in strengthening coordinated humanitarian action. The participants also discussed the importance of engaging local authorities in humanitarian cooperation with Ukraine, including advocacy toward joining the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.
