On 12 November, the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, together with the Academic and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Ukraine and Finis Terrae University, hosted the online conference “Chile Ahead of the Elections: Domestic Political Dynamics and Foreign Policy Orientations”. The discussion offered a timely examination of how Chile’s 2025 general elections may reshape both its internal political landscape and its international posture.

Alberto Rojas Moscoso, Director of the Observatory of International Affairs and professor at Finis Terrae University, provided an in-depth overview of the political realignments underway in Chile. He highlighted how domestic priorities have shifted, how public sentiment is evolving after years of constitutional debate, and how these internal transformations intersect with Chile’s foreign policy choices, including its consistent support for Ukraine in Latin America. Rojas emphasized that the outcome of the 2025 elections will not only determine the direction of the country’s governance but will also influence Chile’s strategic positioning toward key global actors such as the United States, China, and regional partners across the Pacific and the Southern Cone.
Key Insights from the Discussion:
- Public concerns have shifted from constitutional reform toward security, economic recovery, and migration.
- Electoral outcomes will shape Chile’s relations with the US, China, Latin America, the South Pacific, and Antarctic governance.
- Chile’s role as one of Ukraine’s most reliable partners in Latin America was examined, along with whether this commitment may evolve after the elections.
