From Kyiv to Buenos Aires: Strengthening Diaspora Ties

As part of their working visit to Latin America, representatives of the Transatlantic Dialogue Center (TDC) and the Human Rights Center ZMINA held a meeting on April 6 in Buenos Aires with members of the Asociación Ucrania de Cultura PROSVITA — one of the oldest Ukrainian cultural institutions in Latin America.

During the encounter, the Ukrainian delegation had the opportunity to learn more about the origins and ongoing work of PROSVITA, which has played a crucial role in preserving Ukrainian identity and cultural memory across generations of the diaspora. The exchange marked an important moment of connection between Ukrainian civil society and diaspora communities, united by shared values and a common mission.

The visit also featured a public presentation titled “Ukraine Resists: What are the peace proposals hiding?” which offered a civil society perspective on potential future scenarios of the war and the question of what constitutes a just peace. The discussion addressed Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, the current situation on the ground, and the risks posed by superficial or imposed peace deals that ignore justice and Ukraine’s sovereignty.

The dialogue created space to reflect on the shared struggle for truth and dignity, and to strengthen ties between Ukraine and its global diaspora. In a moment of profound challenge, the voices of Ukrainian civil society continue to resonate across borders — amplifying the demand for a principled and lasting peace.
