On 5 March 2026, Alina Rohach, Project Manager of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, joined El Heraldo Radio for a radio interview hosted by Oscar Mario Beteta to discuss one of the most contentious questions in current debates about ending the war: the feasibility and consequences of so-called “territorial compromises”.<\/p>\n\n\n

Rohach outlined why Ukraine rejects territorial concessions and stressed that ceding territory does not address the underlying drivers of the conflict. Instead, she argued, such an approach risks entrenching long-term instability by normalizing aggression and rewarding the use of force as a tool of policy \u2014 with security consequences that extend well beyond Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conversation also examined the role of the United States in negotiations and its leverage in shaping outcomes. Rohach noted that Washington\u2019s position influences the parameters of pressure on the parties, the broader negotiating framework, and the practical space for potential agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her bottom line was clear: peace must be “genuine and durable” and cannot be built at the expense of Ukraine\u2019s security and sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
