On March 7, 2025, Oleksandr Slyvchuk, Coordinator of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program, appeared on the Latin American program Panorama 360<\/em>, broadcast by UCL Televisi\u00f3n, to analyze the current situation in Ukraine, the role of Western allies, and the geopolitical implications of recent developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slyvchuk highlighted that Russia has not abandoned its objective of fully capturing Ukraine. He dismissed the possibility of a quick ceasefire, arguing that the Russian government under Vladimir Putin remains committed to its military ambitions. While some believe that negotiations could lead to a temporary pause in fighting, Slyvchuk warned that any such pause would serve primarily to allow Russia to regroup and prepare for another offensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussing Europe’s role, Slyvchuk noted that key players like France, Germany, and the United Kingdom are increasing their defense commitments and military budgets. However, he described Ukraine\u2019s NATO accession as an “illusion”, pointing out that while the alliance is willing to provide weapons, it is reluctant to offer full membership. He argued that NATO remains in its “comfort zone” and avoids making difficult decisions regarding Ukraine\u2019s integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slyvchuk concluded by stressing that European nations must take greater responsibility for their own security. He pointed out that from 2014 to 2022, many European governments continued economic cooperation with Russia despite its invasion of Crimea and eastern Ukraine. This, he argued, has had long-term consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
