In the midst of 75th anniversary of the NATO summit<\/strong>, Maksym Skrypchenko, President of the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, was invited to Scripps News, an American news channel that is part of the 145-year-old news network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A foreign policy expert on Eastern Europe, Ukraine, and Russia underscored that the so-called \u201cbridge\u201d to NATO membership might rather seem \u201ca disappointment\u201d if no financial and military commitments<\/strong> are implemented, especially from the side of Biden\u2019s administration and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maksym also addressed the one-stance question of the difference between the actual obligations stemming from Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, on the one hand, and the NATO members’ current involvement based on good faith, on the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe do not expect the Western Allies to come and fight for us. But we believe it will be the best solution to have Ukraine as part of NATO.\u201d Had Ukraine been there before, \u201cyou wouldn\u2019t have to spend billions of dollars <\/strong>here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And finally, speaking candidly on the fears about Trump\u2019s re-election:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPresident Trump was the first person to send lethal weapons to Ukraine, not President Obama.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One piece of advice shared is to keep trying to advocate for Ukraine\u2019s support within two major political parties and to present the strong arguments<\/a> we do have on the point of Republicans supporting Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
