Oleksandr Slyvchuk, Coordinator of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, joined Tablero Global on RTVE to discuss the current turn in Russia’s war against Ukraine and the country’s path toward long-term security.

In the interview, Slyvchuk addressed Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil infrastructure, noting that attacks on refineries and fuel logistics are creating concrete difficulties for Moscow at the front. He emphasized that this campaign is no longer a symbolic gesture, but a measurable constraint on Russia’s war effort.
Slyvchuk also stressed that Russia has no intention of reaching a ceasefire. Moscow remains committed to continuing the war, which means any settlement framework must take into account that the aggressor is not currently seeking peace.
The discussion also focused on the illusion of territorial concessions. Slyvchuk underlined that ceding territory would not solve the problem of an aggressive Russia: without addressing the source of aggression, such concessions would only create a pause, not a lasting peace.
Finally, Slyvchuk emphasized that Ukraine’s long-term security must rely on two parallel tracks: strengthening its own armed forces and pursuing EU accession. Four years after the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has achieved greater military autonomy through battlefield innovation, a highly developed drone industry, and an army that has multiplied fivefold.
