On 6 March 2026, Alina Rohach<\/strong>, Project Manager of the Spain and Latin America Cooperation Program at the Transatlantic Dialogue Center, Bohdana Batsko<\/strong>, Project Assistant of the same program, and Olha Kvashuk<\/strong>, \u201cEurope and the World\u201d Program Manager at the International Renaissance Foundation, commented for a column by Israel L\u00f3pez Guti\u00e9rrez published in El Heraldo (a Mexican national daily newspaper).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The column highlights how Ukrainian women\u2019s role has expanded during Russia\u2019s full-scale war: alongside work and family responsibilities, women are increasingly active in volunteering, medicine, civil society leadership, public life, and military service. The article notes that around \u201c70,000\u201d women are currently serving in Ukraine\u2019s Armed Forces<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Batsko stressed that women\u2019s role in Ukraine has been growing since 2014, and described the \u201cdouble burden\u201d many women carry<\/strong> \u2014 caring for children and managing households while also working to provide income as men serve in the armed forces. She also noted that many young women join the military as a values-based choice and with a clear understanding that the outcome of the war depends on women as well, not only men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle a rappel\u00e9 que les femmes au sein des forces arm\u00e9es ne sont pas cantonn\u00e9es \u00e0 des postes administratifs : nombreuses sont celles qui servent sur le front et exercent des fonctions de commandement. Elle a \u00e9galement \u00e9voqu\u00e9 le renforcement du leadership f\u00e9minin dans la diplomatie publique, notamment l\u2019augmentation du nombre de femmes ambassadrices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
