On April 2, 2025, representatives of the Transatlantic Dialogue Center and the Human Rights Center ZMINA held a high-level meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay, with members of the International Affairs Committee of the Uruguayan Parliament. The meeting was part of a broader advocacy mission across Latin America to raise awareness about Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine and its far-reaching humanitarian and geopolitical consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion focused on the current state of the war and the prospects for a sustainable peace. Ukrainian representatives emphasized that while Ukraine remains committed to ending the war through diplomacy, Russia continues to escalate its aggression, making a negotiated settlement increasingly difficult without international pressure and accountability mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special attention was given to Russia\u2019s systematic disinformation campaigns, which aim to manipulate public opinion across democratic societies. Human rights violations committed by Russian forces were also a central theme of the meeting. These include the forcible deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia and occupied territories, the abuse and mistreatment of prisoners of war, and the arbitrary detention and persecution of civilians in the temporarily occupied territories. Ukrainian representatives stressed the urgent need for stronger international mechanisms to protect these victims and hold perpetrators accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
